Wizard101 Halloween Run 2017

Our annual Halloween Run is back, and better than ever! For the first time, we'll have activities all day long!

Edward Lifegem has organized another fun community event and invited me to co-host the 2017 edition of the Halloween Run, along with Autumn Dreamwalker, Michael Walker and many other community members, for a memorable day that you are sure to remember.

Family-Friendly Event
When large crowds gather, problems tend to arise. To mitigate hostilities and bad behavior from some players, we have asked KingsIsle to help us monitor the Halloween Run, so there will be several Hall Monitors in our midst, in different realms, to ensure the event is fun for everyone and runs as smoothly as possible.

Run Details
We'll run from Nightside to the Haunted Cave, near Nightshade's Tower, in all Free Areas. Shortly after the Run, the portbus wizards will add you and teleport you to the Afterparty Events.

KingsIsle Launches Empyrea on Test Realm

The Wizard101 October 2017 update includes the addition of Empyrea Part One, Level 125 increase, new Shadow Magic Spells, Revered Crafting, more Castle Magic spells, Bank Size Increase, New Daily Assignment Quest, Treasure Card Sorting, Realm Locking, and more!
I've summed up the most relevant updates below, and you can see if you qualify for Test Realm here.

Empyrea
The center of the Spiral, Empyrea, was painstakingly created by Raven to keep the Chaos Heart safe and Spider out. The Chaos Heart sits at the center of Empyrea, secured by three great Paradox Chains, and serves as the anchor point to a world comprised of disparate lands, inhabited by diverse beings. Raven enveloped Empyrea in a violent storm, the likes of which even she cannot pass or see through. However, the brilliant minds of the Arcanum have a plan: 
  • Reach Empyrea;
  • Save Mellori;
  • Save the Spiral.

Players who have completed the quest "Lost and Found" at the end of Mirage, and have reached level 120, can go speak to Fitzhume in the Arcanum to get the quest "Baba Boohooie."
For Crowns players, Empyrea Part 1 contains 3 separate Premium Zones, priced at 1995 Crowns each.

Level 125 Increase
New benefits await those who adventure through Part 1 of Empyrea! Characters can now increase their total levels to 125:
  • A Training Point will be awarded at level 125;
  • Be sure to catch Zeke's new hunt for Hootie's Blowfish, and Eloise has a fun quest for you as well! She also has brand new stitching gear;
  • Wizards who are level 121+ will now have a maximum gold allowance of 500,000.
Shadow Magic
Velma Von Venkma's chambers are now open! She will offer Wizards a new quest, which occurs as a part of the main quest line. After completing this quest, she will award you with the new Shadow Trickster spell and offer another new Shadow Magic spell for you to train: Donate Shadow Pip!
She will also offer to train the following spells if you do not have them in your spell book already:
  • Shadow Shrike
  • Shadow Sentinel
  • Shadow Seraph
  • Dark Fiend
  • Dark Nova
  • Dark Shepherd

Revered Crafting
There's an all newrank in Crafting beyond Legendary that will have you scouring the ends of the game to be a Revered Crafter. Librarian Fitzhume will direct you to Ignus to start your new quest. The Revered Crafting quests have new kinds of reagents you'll need to find!
Grady also has the new Wysteria Lore Pack spell recipes for sale, or you could just farm The Loremaster to get them.

More Space
Houses now have an additional 100 Castle Magic slots available to them. In addition, there is now an "Expand Backpack Elixir" available for purchase in the Crown Shop. Players can now buy up to two of these elixirs to increase their backpack size by fifty slots with each purchase. Also, everyone's bank space has been increased from 100 to 150!

New Daily Assignment Quest
With Empyrea comes a new classification of Daily Quests: Heavyweight. Do you have what it takes to be a new Daily Quest contender? To those ends, Aegon Statz also has a new quest to offer players on the twelfth day of Daily Assignments! Make sure to do your daily quests to continue those important pekron investigations.

Wizard101 Empyrea Part 1 is Live

The November 2017 Wizard101 update was launched this morning and it includes Empyrea Part 1, Level 125 increase, new Shadow Magic Spells, Revered Crafting, more Castle Magic spells, Bank Size Increase, New Daily Assignment Quest, Treasure Card Sorting, Realm Locking, and more!

Empyrea

Wizard101 Empyrea Part 1 Review

Empyrea has raised the bar in terms of difficulty. The amount of tough fights in this new world is what you'd expect and want for high level Wizards. Even though most of the expansion can be soloed without much trouble, there are boss fights and dungeons you'll want your friends to tag along for more fun.

The strong points
KingsIsle has been adding cinematics since Polaris, and the ones in Empyrea are truly magnificent. From rich dialogues to the sumptuous environments, refined details and polished effects, Empyrea is a mix of several worlds we've visited so far, and the final product is beyond splendid! The planet is home to many races of the Spiral, and the diversity of faces and textures make it so unique. Not to mention the graphics are simply mesmerizing, and the soundtrack is super catchy!

In this new update, you'll have to solve a few puzzles along the way and the plethora of quests make it more entertaining and exciting. There are many pets and music scrolls to obtain, rare reagents to collect, and a lot of crafting to do. When it comes to characters, villains have never had so much depth!

The downsides
For me, the last boss' cheats are a little excessive and I can see him being nerfed in a future update. Also, the expansion felt a bit short, but that's to be expected from a world that was divided in two parts. However, side activities are sure to keep you busy for a while, especially if you want to craft one of those revered wands and farm for your Level 125 gear.

The verdict
Empyrea is filled with countless unexpected turn of events and unforseen changes of heart, leading to an epic finale that will surely leave you eager for Part 2, which is expected to see the light in the Fall 2018.

All in all, the first half of the newly released expansion is packed with Batman, Game of Thrones, Star Wars and The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings references, which add significant depth to an all-around fantastic storyline, making it one of Wizard101's greatest updates yet.

New Make-a-Wish Quest in Wizard101

Last month, we heard about Derrick's visit to KingsIsle through the Make-a-Wish foundation. During his time there, Derrick has worked with KingsIsle on new Wizard101 content.

The brand new quest was released during last night's KI Live episode, and Derrick's character was added into the game, right by the Bazaar.

Wizards of all levels can now visit Derrick Blaze in Olde Town to get the quest "Play It Forward", where you will be urged to help other Wizards through the Team Up Kiosk. The more people you help, the closer you are to unlocking new items that Derrick has for sale, including:
  • Join a Team Kiosk housing item;
  • Blaze's Garnet Cowl;
  • Blaze's Garnet Robe;
  • Blaze's Garnet Boots;
  • Blaze Fox Pet;
  • Sand Swarm Mount.

Note: Every item requires a specific badge to purchase,
so you'll have to help quite a lot of Wizards in order to get them.

Yuletide Season in Wizard101 & Pirate101

The Yuletide Season is back in the Spiral, and some cool items are returning to Wizard101 and Pirate101 for the occasion, with lots of surprises during the month!

12 Days of the Spiral
The 12 Days of the Spiral will start in 4 days! Check back on December 6 for updates.


Wizard101
Felix Navidad is back in the Shopping District, with all of his Holiday items. Other seasonal items from Yuletide are back in the Crown Shop, including the festive mounts and pets, Holiday decorations and the Yuletide & Winterland Packs! Also, there are 3 new, seasonal fish to be caught: the Cold Cod (Ice), Mistletoe Angler (Life) and Yuletoy Fish (Myth)!



Coming soon to Wizard101!
The Winter Wonder Pack isn't available in the Crown Shop yet, but it might bring new surprises this year!


Pirate101

December 2017 Pirate101 Update

The Festive Pirate101 update was applied to the game and includes improvements to the Auto Companion and Practice Ship PvP systems, general bug fixes and a plethora of new badges to be found!

Gingerbread raiders have invaded the Spiral skyways! Defeat enemy ships in the Skull Island, Westminster, and Calabria Skyways to find them and earn cool loot and badges for defeating these cookie criminals.

There are now more hidden snowmen for you to hunt down throughout the Spiral's skyways! It's time to set sail and see if you can find them all and earn their badges.

Monquista City, Barkley Square in Marleybone, and Florenza in Valencia now have more festive decorations (and present boxes)!

Auto Companion Improvements
Companions on automatic play will act a bit smarter now. They're more likely to do the following:
  • Use abilities like buffs and heals;
  • Avoid traps and proximity-based opponent abilities;
  • Use their critical strike powers;
  • Avoid trying to all break the same battle board props all at once.

If the Auto Companion feature is selected, you will also find a new "skip" (hourglass) icon at the tail end of the companion power bar. Clicking this icon will have your companions skip their turn if you'd rather they not act at all. 

Practice Ship PvP Improvements
KingsIsle made a few rules changes and improvements to help get you out of the Safe Harbor and into the action in Practice Ship PvP:
  • They've added temporary leaderboards that shows the current Top Ten Pirates in the Ship PvP zone so you can know your current standings. Clicking on the three skulls in the top right corner will hide/show this leaderboard;
  • There is now only one Ship PVP realm. When you leave Ship PvP, you will be returned to the realm you were previously playing on;
  • There's a new dangerous ship in the middle of the Ship PvP zone for you and your competitors to tackle – will you be one of the lucky ones to win one of its new ship horns (with new ship powers)?
  • As you drift from the Safe Harbor, you will be granted 6 seconds of safety where no other player ship can attack you.

Illustrated Guide to Pirate101's Hidden Snowmen

Pirate101 has a fun and festive way to get you into the Holiday season: a hunt for large snowmen hidden in the Skyways!
There is a known bug with the snowmen, making it very difficult to register a badge on your first attempt. In order to get them, you have to go through the snowman itself, which can prove extremely challenging with your ship alone.

Tips to register the snowmen badges
  1. Drop your anchor near the snowman by pressing the space bar, making sure it overlaps somewhere on your ship's deck;
  2. Press the TAB key on your keyboard to switch to deck mode;
  3. Once on deck, run towards the snowman and go through it to register the badge.
Avernus Skyway
Finding the Avernus Skyway snowman will get you the "Frosty Finder" badge.


Mooshu-Valencia Stormgate
Finding the Mooshu-Valencia Stormgate snowman will get you the "Frosty Voyager" badge.



Haunted Skyway
Finding the Haunted Skyway snowman will get you the "Frosty Wrangler" badge.


Skull Island Skyway
Finding the Skull Island Skyway snowman will get you the "Stay Frosty" badge.


As of December 2017, there are four hidden snowmen in the Skyways.

With another year coming to a close, it's time to look back on the many great things that happened in the Spiral in the last twelve months, so here's a rundown of the best things 2017 had for us!

Game Updates
It's been an exciting year for Wizard101 and Pirate101, with a few Test Realms for both games:

Bundles
A total of 4 Wizard101 game cards were launched in 2017, which include the Avalon Outlaw's Bundle, Fantastic Voyage Gauntlet Bundle, Spooky Carnival Bundle and the Empyrean Castaway Bundle.

This year, we've seen so many new packs released in the Crown Shop! A total of four game card packs were launched in 2017 (excluding updated ones):
Community Events
Once again, I've teamed up with many community leaders and members this year to bring you more in-game events, such as our Easter Bunny Run, Santa Run in July and Halloween Run.

Limited Time Quest in Wizard101

In yesterday's episode of KingsIsle Live, a brand new and limited time side quest was launched in Wizard101 during the show: "Just Looking."

Renee Wooften, the new NPC that will give you the quest, has arrived to Wizard City and will require your assistance to survey The Commons. Although it is a very short and easy quest, it has no level requirements and you will get a free Range Pole staff after completing it.


You'll find Renee in The Commons, so make sure to complete the quest before it's gone!
