Happy anniversary to the blog! Five years after my very first post in the blogosphere, here I am. I still don't know how I made it this far and what made me this popular over the years, but I really owe it all to you!

I've been blogging for the past five years because of the games that I love, but also for your entertainment; to keep the flame ablaze in your hearts and the interest in the games afloat. Your feedback and constructive criticism have always been wondeful and greatly appreciated, and your continued support is a blessing. Thanks for sticking with me through thick and thin, thanks for your devotion and your interest in the blog, but above all else, thanks for giving me a chance to express myself through Frostcaller!

Frostcaller over the years...

Since June 5th, 2012, I've covered weekly news from around the Spiral, featured a few blog posts from guests, co-hosted several in-game parties with other Community Leaders, such as the Halloween Run, released over 30 unique wallpapers for both Wizard101 and Pirate101, launched many helpful guides, including my popular Guide to Promotional Wands & Staffs and Illustrated Guide to Teleport Tapestries, that I will update very soon with the missing tapestries from the Mirage update, and wrote theories about the remainder of Arc 3 in my Wizard101 Chronicles, Part 1 and Part 2. You may have noticed that I've added direct links to KingsIsle's mobile games on the blog as well, so if you haven't had the opportunity to test them yet, please give them a try!

I've been working on new wallpapers that I'm not ready to reveal just yet. However, I can tell you that I will be releasing new Astral and Shadow magic wallpapers later this year, and I might make new ones for Pirate101, too!

Fifth Blogoversary Contest

PvP Daily Rewards

There is a new Daily PvP Tournament kiosk in the PvP staging area, where you can check on your Daily Award status. While most days will give you bonus tickets and gold, Days 5, 10 and 15 all have awesome surprises in store! Best of luck at finding both new items and old favorites (like Loremaster spells).

Other PvP Changes

To help stop the practice of boosting rank in PvP, players are no longer allowed to play against the same players they've been matched with for a period of time.

In PvP only, KingsIsle has implemented a Dispel Shield functionality to reduce the ability to spam Dispels. When a Dispel is cast upon a player, they will also receive a Dispel Shield, which can only be broken by a second Dispel. NOTE: If you use a spell that leaves multiple Dispels on a player, like Elemental Diffuse, only one Dispel Shield will be applied.

With these recent changes, KingsIsle is also adding a new age of PvP: welcome to Age 4, which includes new badges for your Wizard to obtain!

PvP Tournaments now have a new turn-based mode. In this mode, each side of the dueling circle will take turns choosing their cards instead of both sides choosing at the same time.

Chat Improvements

This update features a ton of new chat changes. First, the Menu Chat has been updated and revamped, so that it contains a lot more strategy and other fun phrases. It also now features a "Favorites" column at the top of your list.

Also available to all players are new emojis! Click the round face icon on the right hand side of your chat window, and this opens up a menu of emojis you can add to your conversation.

To really kick up your conversations, KingsIsle has added a new "Friend" chat channel. Now each player has a friend chat channel and can invite friends to join it. Your Friend Chat Channel can be public or private.

Avalon Fishing

Brooke Waterman has set up her tackle box in Avalon, where you can find a new fishing quest for all wizards who have finished the fishing quests in Dragonspyre (specifically the quest "Not If I Catch 'Em First!") and completed the world of Avalon (specifically the quest "A Great Storm Coming"). Brooke's quest will take you on a journey to all the newest fishing spots in Avalon, and she may even have a new fishing spell for you once you finished your quest!

Monstrology

New Monstrology spells to extract Treants, Pigs and Gobblers can now be found in Grizzleheim, Colossus Boulevard, and Wysteria. Hunt down Monstrologist Burke in these new locations, and she'll have these new extract spells to teach your wizard.

Our last Santa Run was held on December 2016 and it was so much fun, so we decided to organize another one for the Wizard101 community during Christmas in July!

During the EverClicker segment of the last KingsIsle Live episode, it was revealed that a new pet is coming to the game: the EverDrake! This pet should be available in EverClicker later this Summer.

Judging by the swift rise in number of followers on social media just a month after its worldwide launch, EverClicker might actually be KingsIsle's most successful mobile game to date!

New Spells

The spells from the Wysteria's Lore Pack are reward spells, and do not cost your Wizard a training point. Bundle Overview

The Fantastic Voyage Expedition will take you a quest to find the very rare Micro Fish. In order to succeed, you will have to fight four different battles. After completing the gauntlet, you will be awarded the "Fantastic Voyager" badge and a free Fishing Luck elixir. You will then be able to fish on the beach, where you can find an exclusive fish!

The Shark Skirunner Mount is a clockwork mount specifically engineered to give your Wizard a 50% speed boost, making it one of the fastest mounts in the Spiral!

The EverVerse is getting Guilds! KingsIsle is hard at work on a huge update that will allow EverClicker players to chat with one another in-game, as well as work together to complete a repeating weekly challenge for fantastic rewards. The Weekly Guild Challenge feels a bit like a "Guild Time Gate", where all members in the Guild work to earn Guild Points. These Points are tracked on a Guild leaderboard for the entire week. At certain Guild Point thresholds, prizes are unlocked. When the Challenge ends, everyone in the Guild who participated can claim the prizes. See below for full details:

Earning Guild Points

Guild points are earned by completing the activities listed below. When a Time Gate ends, points are applied to the Guild Challenge active in the Leaderboard tab of your Guild Menu.

Guild Points are earned by doing the following:

1 point : Joining a Time Gate;
2 points : Earn MVP for High Score in a Time Gate;
2 points : Earn MVP for Highest Streak in a Time Gate;
5 points : Earn MVP for Final Hit in a Time Gate;
5 points : Be part of a completed 1,000 kills Time Gate;
10 points : Earn a new Star by defeating the Star Devourer.

Note: Points are awarded when a Time Gate ENDS (either by the time expiring or all 1,000 enemies are defeated.)

Time Limit

The Guild Challenge runs for one week before it resets and starts again, so work together with your Guild to score Guild Points in order to reach specific milestones and collect rewards!

Rewards

Rewards are available when the current Guild Challenge ends. Navigate back to this tab and the rewards will automatically be granted.

BONUS - Want a cool way to show your Guild pride to everyone else in the game? Great!

Work together and earn the final reward for the challenge to secure a premium special effect that will be displayed on ALL Guild Member Avatars!

This effect is the perfect way to let everyone know your Guild completed the challenge. The effect only lasts for a week, so if you want to keep it, you need to keep earning it!

Premium Avatar

Earning the final reward for a Guild Challenge also grants ONE lucky guild member a PREMIUM AVATAR.

Premium Avatars showcase a particular Hero and have a unique custom frame themed special for them! These will only be available to be earned for a limited time, but will be unlocked permanently once acquired.

Remember: only one random member will earn the Avatar, so make sure to earn the final tier prize every week for the most chances.

KingsIsle has launched a new update to EverClicker, which brought many great and cool features to the game, including player guilds and new pets (image below)! Each weekend through September 10th, be the player to get the Final Hit on a Time Gate and you'll receive 1,000 Crowns!

Follow the instructions in your EverClicker mailbox message to redeem your free Crowns code. Be careful not to delete your mailbox message if you don't plan on redeeming your code right away!

A year after the final showdown with The Armada's leader in Valencia Part 2, Pirate101 is finally getting another update. But not a major one; at least, not for now.

In the August 2017 Producer's Letter, Professor Falmea revealed that a major story update is planned, but it will most likely be released in "smaller, bite-sized chunks." According to Falmea:

"The first episode involves our good friend Captain Avery asking for yet more assistance, this time in an Ambassadorial role. Skull Island is on the cusp of becoming a true, legitimate republic. Your exploits have helped other major powers realize that Skull Island should not be ignored; and Avery is positively giddy at the prospect of wealth and power. Navigate your way through the needy Ambassadors’ whims, and perhaps you can help Avery succeed with something he’s been trying to realize for FIVE LONG YEARS."

So what can Pirate101 players actually expect in the next update?

Nautical PvP

KingsIsle is going to introduce the very first "free-for-all practice ship-to-ship combat area", where players will engage in fierce nautical battles against one another, similar to PvP but without teams. If this becomes popular enough, Professor Falmea made is clear that they intend to delve more into nautical PvP and expand it based on the community's reception:

"We're doing step one, which is giving you some space to fight amongst yourselves (and some badges for bragging rights). If this is popular, fun, and something a lot of you enjoy, we’ll take more steps. Currently, we’re talking about expanding this in future updates, by making different modes, doing some tweaks and rebalancing ship combat in general; and of course building in a ranking/match-making system like PvP."

Team-Up Kiosk

Pirate101 will be getting a Team-Up Kiosk very soon, just like the one that operates in Wizard101. For those of you who don't play the latter, the Team-Up Kiosk displays a list of all teams that are waiting for additional members, for a specific dungeon or boss fight.

Companion Auto-Fight

KingsIsle is also going to implement a new mechanic that allows our Companions to be a little more independent, by making their own decisions.

There are more things in store for us that weren't revealed in the latest Producer's Letter, but Falmea confirmed that a Test Realm is coming very soon to Pirate101!

New Birthday Mystery Fish

There are special, rare fish in town (one for each school), creeping in the waters of the Spiral through October 1st! These returning fish, and your birthday favorite from last year, are only here for a short time for birthday celebrations... can you catch them?

In the August 2017 Producer's Letter, Professor Falmea revealed two new pieces of concept art, of what seems to be the next world expansion in Wizard101.

Although nothing was specifically stated about this forthcoming update, which is expected to be on Test Realm this Fall, we still have to visit three major worlds, according to Old Cob's prophecy:

Empyrea;
The Hidden Lands;
The Broken Shores.

What we know about the next expansion is that one of its areas seems to be called Sycorax Jungle and that the world itself is home to beasts. Now I know this will sound odd to most of you, but this made me think of the description Zander made of his homeworld, Wallaru. And the beasts shown in the concept art fit the theme perfectly.

Sycorax was a powerful witch in William Shakespeare's play "The Tempest", but what does that have to do with the game? Well, we know one of Old Cob's children - the Bat - is still roaming around, so Sycorax could be a reference to the third Warlord we are going to face in the upcoming world.

We know that Scorpion was plotting in Mirage long before we set foot on the sandy world, so it's not too farfetched to think that this third foe has been doing the same and could've named a forest after itself.

The Pirate101 Test Realm is live once again and available for download! Please join KingsIsle in testing Avery's new Diplomat quests, Practice Ship PvP, Team Up Ledger, Emojis, Auto-Companions, and other bug fixes.

Avery's Quests

Captain Avery's dream is coming true: Skull Island is going to be a republic! For players, this means new adventures await those who have completed the quest "Gunn's Gold".

Avery's new quests will take you across Skull Island, and always guide you back to Zeke's Party Barge. Once you complete Avery's initial quests, every 24 hours the diplomats on the Party Barge will offer you a level-banded repeatable quest that have a chance to reward you some of the rarest jewelry and totems from around the Spiral.

Once you earn your new badge from completing these quests, a new vendor will unlock on the Party Barge. Drop by the Party Barge often! You never know who or what you might see there!

Practice Ship PvP

For all those who are level 3+ (and nautical level 3+), Mickey Dugan has a new quest titled "Broadside!" This quest will direct you to the Skipper and open the portal to a random location in the ship PvP zone. It's sure to be a dangerous place!

Special Notes:

You won't be able to change your ship in the zone;
You will spawn into the zone in a random location;
The only way to exit is to use your shortcut teleportation keys (...or get sent back to a life fountain from being defeated);
There are new badges for both sinking ships and for being sunk in Practice Ship PvP.

Team Up Ledger

Visit the new Join a Team Ledger in Skull Island, proper to find a group for adventures! It will display a list of all teams that are waiting for additional members. Only the dungeons and worlds that your Pirate already has access to will be listed! Press the "Refresh" button at the bottom right to update the list and look for additional teams.

Emojis

Pirate101 now has emojis! Click the skull face icon on the right hand side of your chat window, and this will open up a menu of emojis you can add to your conversation. If you'd rather not see emojis, there is a toggle now to turn these on and off from your options menu.

Auto-Companions

Now your companions have been given intelligence to act of their own accord! The "Automate Companions" option now defaults to "on", but you can toggle this off through your options menu. While Automate Companions is on, whenever you don't issue a command to a companion, they will approach and fight the enemy as they see fit. This also works for Henchmen!

The only way to exit is to use your shortcut teleportation keys (...or get sent back to a life fountain from being defeated);

It's the time of the year for Halloween, and that means spooky things are happening in Wizard101! All your favorite Halloween friends are back with their ghostly items, to get your Wizard into the Halloween spirit. Plus, the classic Halloween quests have returned!

There are lots of Halloween decorations: bubbling cauldrons, apple tubs, pumpkins and ghosts, and surprises all over Wizard City. But beware, a boss is waiting to test your skills!

New Obsidian Mimic Pet

Spooky Bob brings a new pet to the Spiral this year: the Obsidian Mimic! Check it out in the Crown Shop today, for only 3,500 Crowns.

Halloween Quests

Jack Hallow can be found in the Wizard City Commons and brings back the original Halloween quests, where you will be sent on many adventures throughout the different zones of Wizard City! Additionally, Nosferabbit is back to haunt the Wizard City inhabitants. Wizards Level 13 and above should talk to Dworgyn in Nightshade, to start the quest "Something Rotten in Nightside".

Halloween Goodies

While you're in the Wizard City Shopping District, don't forget to visit Spooky Bob, the traveling salesghoul, to find the perfect costume for the occasion. The Halloween costumes are back in the Crown Shop, as well as the Halloween Pets. The Halloween Packs have also returned for the occasion!

Special Halloween Fish

The waters of Wizard City are lurking with special, mysterious Halloween fish for your Wizard to catch this year. Some of these fish are so spooky, you may want to put them back in the water! Can you catch the Black Catfish (Death), Frankenfish (Storm) and Vampire Squid (Death)?

KingsIsle revealed a new Wizard101 concept art, confirming that Empyrea is the next world our Wizards will visit!

The first hint of the Fall update was released at the end of August, and we know one of the areas of Empyrea is called Sycorax Jungle. The zone is inhabited by the BeastMen, which you can see animated in Tony Gaddis' (Senior Animator at KingsIsle) guest post on Swordroll's Blog.

From the Batman reference in the new sneak peek, we can assume that Old Cob's last child, The Bat, is hiding in Empyrea.
Will we find answers about Bartleby's illness there?

Hopefully we'll see the Test Realm doors open by the end of the month, or early November! And with that said, how excited are you for Empyrea?
